Hi all
It is with conflicted emotions that I am writing this letter. After working at Hoon Hay Medical Centre for over 28 years I have decided to retire at the end of January 2026.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working here, in the neighbourhood where I grew up. I started Hoon Hay School as a 5-year-old and love seeing some of my classmates and families as patients.
My father built this medical centre in the late 1970s and it has been an honour following the family tradition in the area. I feel I have followed him too closely though, even his bad habit of running late!
My time working here has made me feel privileged to have been involved in so many lovely people’s lives. It has been wonderful to see the babies and young children grow into amazing adults, going into careers, finding partners, and having children of their own.
There are joyous times as well as the tough times in health, and it has been an honour to care for people as they navigate through these stages of life. I just hope that I have been able to help in some way.
I went into General Practice to get to know and help people, follow their health journeys, and build a relationship with them. I feel I have done this over the years and this will be the part of the job I will miss the most.
I am planning to travel in my retirement, but will also be around in the community, often hanging out at coffee shops. If you see me, please feel free to come and say hello for a wee catchup.
Caroline Gibb
